This course provides a comprehensive understanding of Prosthodontics, focusing on the principles and techniques involved in the restoration and replacement of missing teeth. It covers Fixed Partial Dentures (FPD), Removable Partial Dentures (RPD), Complete Dentures (CD), Oral Implants, and Maxillofacial Prosthetics. Topics include tooth preparation, impression techniques, occlusion, pontics and abutments, lab procedures, denture relining and rebasing, jaw relations, and maxillofacial prostheses. Emphasis is placed on achieving functional, esthetic, and biocompatible prosthetic rehabilitation for edentulous and partially edentulous patients.

    Learning Objectives

    Understand the indications, contraindications, and types of Fixed Partial Dentures (FPD).

    Identify and describe the parts of FPD, including pontics and abutments.

    Explain the basic principles of tooth preparation, gingival displacement, and occlusion in prosthodontic treatment.

    Learn the complete denture impression techniques and the use of articulators for occlusal adjustments.

    Describe the laboratory procedures involved in complete denture fabrication.

    Understand the sequelae of wearing complete dentures, including residual ridge resorption.

    Explain relining, rebasing, and immediate denture fabrication techniques.

    Discuss the consequences of partial edentulousness, including supra-eruption of opposing teeth.

    Differentiate between types of Removable Partial Dentures (RPD), their indications, and classification systems.

    Identify and describe the parts of an RPD, including major and minor connectors, rests, and retainers.

    Understand surveying techniques, path of insertion, and guiding planes for RPDs.

    Explain the fundamentals of oral implants, including indications, surgical procedures, and prosthetic considerations.

    Learn about maxillofacial prostheses, veneers, overdentures, and their applications in rehabilitative dentistry.

    Diagnose and analyze anatomical landmarks for complete denture fabrication.

    Understand Maxillo-Mandibular Jaw Relations and their importance in prosthetic rehabilitation.
